10 tips to tap into masculine + feminine energy

Welcome to Spring!!! 🌸

While the winter in NYC was incredibly mild this year, I am still welcoming spring with open arms.

I love the extra light, the sense of rebirth and possibility and the feeling of increased energy I always have around this time of year.

We also had the Aries New Moon yesterday, which means we just started a new astrological year and this particular year it happened at 0 degrees, which adds to the potency of new beginnings.

One of the things I like most about the Spring Equinox is the balance of light and dark. It is one of the two days of the year (the Fall Equinox being the second one) when we have an equal amount of day time and night time.

It always reminds me of the importance of balancing the masculine and feminine energies in our lives and how powerful this can be in helping us accomplish our goals and dreams from a place of efficiency and ease.

What is the difference between masculine and feminine energy?

Masculine energy is akin to the light. It is associated with the energy of doing and our ability to get things accomplished.

Some traits associated with masculine energy are:

  • Leadership

  • Confidence

  • Assertiveness

  • Boundaries

  • Protectiveness

Feminine energy is akin to the dark. It is associated with the energy of being and our ability to rest and go with the flow.

Some traits associated with feminine energy are:

  • Creativity

  • Feeling

  • Fluidity

  • Intuition

  • Receptivity

Each of us, whether male or female identifying or non-binary, has both masculine and feminine energy within us.

What does it look like when masculine and feminine energy are out of balance?

Because masculine energy has more to do with the energy of action, living your life relying on mostly masculine energy can lead to a sense of burnout, because there is a constant feeling of hustle without taking time to rest and recharge.

Because feminine energy has more to do with the energy of being, living your life relying on mostly feminine energy can lead to a sense of depression, because of a tendency to feel stuck or stagnant and becoming caught up in emotions and internalizing due to a lack of action.

What does it look like to have balanced, masculine and feminine energy?

When masculine and feminine energy are balanced, we have the ability to live our lives from a place of taking intuitively guided actions, which help us get to our goals more easily and effectively because we are using our energy towards aligned actions instead of wasting it on superfluous ones that don’t actually move the needle in the direction of our desires.

We have confidence in what we want and know when the situation calls for us to proactively take a step forward with discipline and determination. And we also have the awareness and trust to know when we have done enough and that it is best to take a step back in order to rest and recharge.

While we live in a culture that tends to lean heavily on masculine energy, we all have inherently different levels of masculine and feminine energy within us and the ability to hone and bring both into better balance with awareness and practice.

Looking at your patterns, which energy do you operate most often from and which could you benefit from bringing more of into your day-to-day activities?

Use your assessment and awareness to experiment and play with the following practices to see what kind of changes you can create.
