Movement is an exercise in freedom
April felt like a bit of a whirlwind in all the best ways!
I spent a week volunteering with a project that outfits underserved girls with complete prom outfits, including dresses, shoes, bags, and even make up. It’s one of the most fulfilling things I do each year!
I celebrated Passover in NYC with chosen family and friends. Since it fell a little later this year, it coincided perfectly with peak cherry blossom time, making the celebration of freedom, rebirth and spring even more poignant and meaningful.
I reconnected with a college roommate who was in town for her own daughter’s senior class trip 😱 and I’m getting ready to travel this weekend to visit another college roommate and attend a 50th birthday party celebration!
May promises to be equally as busy and fulfilling so I’m doing my best to create balance by using my “free time“ to fit in a lot of self-care practices and prioritize rest and movement, in whatever ways feel most restorative based on my body’s needs.
As I moved through those busy days of April and sometimes felt a bit overwhelmed, I found it helpful to remind myself of what a blessing it is that each of us have the freedom to take care of ourself in the ways that we need. It may look different for each of us, but if you’re reading this right now, chances are you have some freedom over the choices you make.
We can choose movement or rest.
Time with others or time with ourself.
That we have the freedom to say yes or no.
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and this month I encourage you to experiment with the practice of seeing the ways each day where you have freedom in your life.
I know, sometimes that can feel hard, especially if you’re feeling overwhelmed, rundown, or depleted. And that’s also what makes it such a powerful practice.
And if part of the reason you’re feeling tired right now is because of all the pollen that comes with the beauty of spring, practice the routine below to support your body and your energy.
To you and all the ways you are blessed.
