3 techniques to believe in yourself more
Lately I’ve noticed myself feeling extra judgmental, of myself and others.
These types of thoughts are always red flags for me.
Instead of speaking these unkind words to others, they are a sign for me to stay quiet and begin to hear my own inner critic’s voice.
To ask myself the questions:
In what ways am I currently judging myself?
Where am I feeling frustrated with my own inaction or progress in life?
The reason I know to ask myself these questions is because I understand how the brain works when it comes to defining our identity, especially when we’re in the process of creating new habits.
When it comes to the ways we define ourselves, or more specifically the ways we say we’re not:
I am not a morning person…
I am not a runner…
I cannot dance….
We are automatically limiting ourselves and our brain does whatever it can to prove those identity statements right in the things that show up, or the ways we show up, in our day to day lives.
When we try to change our habits we challenge these identity beliefs, and our brain rebels in an effort to keep us safe.
Our inner critic kicks in and tries to use a multitude of tactics to convince us it’s better to stay as we are.
“Remember when you tried before and failed/were embarrassed/quit/etc.”
“You’ll upset this person or that person or if you do this.”
“You don’t have the time/money/resources you need.”
All of these tactics bring up doubts in ourselves and our ability to succeed.
And oftentimes they cause us to give up. To believe the doubts. To avoid the risk. To stay small. To walk away from our goals.
Here are 3 ways to work with your brain, increase your belief in yourself and create an expanded identity that will increase your chances for success.
Use your fingertips to tap the stomach and liver points while releasing fear and increasing trust. Stomach points are right below your cheek bones and liver points are on the bottom of your rib cage directly below your chest.
Write the following statement with your non-dominant hand. “I am open to the possibility to being the type of person who (fill in the blank with whatever it is you want)”
Choose one small way to show up in your life as that type of person. One baby step.
I also find a healthy dose of Surrender Oil and Humility Oil helps a lot to quiet that inner critic!!
Here’s the truth:
Change is simple. It takes consistency and commitment.
That doesn’t mean it’s always easy.
But I promise you, you absolutely have EVERYTHING you need to succeed in whatever it is that you want in life.
