15 minutes to balance + align

Last Thursday, one of my yoga class participants asked what astrological events were going on in the world right now, and I commented that eclipse season is starting at the end of the month.

Later that day, I was able to gain some wisdom about eclipses from Virginia Rosenberg and she reminded me that even though the first eclipse isn’t until next Tuesday, October 25, there are plenty of ways that I might already be feeling it. And you could be too.

One of the ways is through growth and change. A long time ago I read the following quote:

Growth creates change.

At first I disagreed with it. I felt like it should go the opposite way:

Change creates growth.

Which one comes first? It felt like a chicken and egg debate to me and one I have pondered over the last few years.

I now realize that we are always growing. Sometimes it’s under the surface and we're unaware of it. So it can seem that when change happens, it's what forces us to do things differently, but under the surface we’ve been growing to the point that change inevitably had to occur.

Eclipses, which always happen in pairs of two or three, bring about rapid change. That doesn’t necessarily mean the changes happen exactly at the peak of the eclipse. They can happen a few days or weeks before or after, so you might already be experiencing some changes or see them start to happen over the next month.

Since eclipses have an energy of rapid movement associated with them, time might feel like it is currently going incredibly fast. And you might even be experiencing a little trouble staying on top of your to do list.

The partial eclipse on October 25 is a solar eclipse. Solar eclipses always happen on the new moon and from a planetary perspective is when the moon comes between the earth and the sun in there orbital paths. The type of change solar eclipses bring about can have to do with new beginnings, which can sometimes come with an ending or release of something.

The total lunar eclipse on November 8 (yes, on midterm election day) happens on the full moon. Lunar eclipses happen when the moon and sun are on exact opposing sides of the planet, almost mirroring one another, which is often why the full moon will show up as a blood red color during this time, since it’s reflecting the light of the sun. The type of changes that lunar eclipses bring about often have to do with release or completion.

Both of these eclipses are happening on what is called the Taurus/Scorpio axis, which is the same axis the previous eclipses in April and May were on, and also the same axis that the next eclipses will be on in another six months. What this means is that the themes over this year and a half of eclipses will be related, so if you’re curious how they might show up in your life, you can look back to April and May of 2022 to see what was currently happening in your life at that time.

While you may have to wait a little to understand how the changes in your external world might show up, you’re potentially already feeling the symptoms of growth happening internally. Growth takes a lot of effort. Just think of how much babies sleep and change in their first year of life or how much teenagers eat when going through a growth spurt.

As adults we can feel like rest is a privilege, and one we can’t afford if there are bills to pay, children to take care of or obligations to attend to, but rest and giving your body the support it needs is always worthwhile and will help you change with more energy and ease into the person you’re currently growing into.

To help you get started, here is a sequence to support you in staying aligned and grounded through this eclipse season, or whenever you need to reconnect back to yourself and this planet. 🌎
